ARTICLE 5 Launch Party

I’m so thrilled to share that the launch party was AWESOME! Thank you to everyone who came or sent their well wishes. It couldn’t have gone better.

The event was hosted by Inkwood Books in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012. Love this bookstore – the owners are so sweet and personable, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting – it was the perfect place to launch A5 into the world.

After some coffee and lovely A5 treats, the program began. Carla, the co-owner of Inkwood, introduced me, and we were off.

Though I tried not to cry, it was hard! It was such an emotional night! One thing I’ve learned over the past week is that the novel that hit shelves isn’t just Ember’s story, it’s mine too. Every piece of it is tied to a memory – two difficult moves across the country, some hard goodbyes, a birth, a death, the first time I spoke to my agent, the day she told me the book had sold. Things that make it more than just a book, but a section of my life. I thought about all of this while I was thanking the people that supported me on this journey – my ever-patient husband, my mom, and my in-laws – who flew in for the special night. My editor, who is just one of the greatest people ever.

(my mom!)

And of course, the person who made A5 actually possible, my agent, Joanna MacKenzie of Browne & Miller, who flew in from Chicago because she’s the best agent in the world.

(best agent ever)

There were raffles! A5 bookmarks and A5 swag! The night was broken into five sections (5 being my favorite number), which included my journey to publication, a definition of dystopia, and a discussion on reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues, a topic I feel passionately about.

And there was a reading, which  seemed to go all right despite my nerves!

And then I got to sign books! It was so fun meeting other authors, crit groups, bloggers, and supporters of A5. It was great to hear their stories and (try to) answer their questions. We packed the house with 50 people, and sold out of books!

I could not have asked for a better night!’Thank you again to everyone who came or thought happy thoughts for the night’s success – it couldn’t have gone better.

Thank you for a fabulous week everyone! Happy Reading!
